Responsibilities
Guided by department objectives and priorities, responsible for overall enterprise-wide domain administration, including ongoing management, tactical planning, and project management of upgrades, changes and other improvements. Provides high level expertise to assist the in decisions relating to domain configuration, system and network design. Provides hands-on and strategic support for Active Directory, domain and network security. Develops, documents and implements support and recovery procedures for Active Directory. Secondarily assists with server, network, and storage design, configuration and maintenance. Ensures client service and satisfaction are attained in all relevant areas of the position.
Essential Functions
Domain Security Management
1. Lead domain security planning, testing, deployment, optimization and ongoing monitoring.
2. Research, test, recommend, install, and configure domain security and patch management software.
3. Maintain awareness of emerging security / bug issues.
4. Create domain topology maps and security policy documentation.
5. Perform regular security audits of domain / server resources and user / group accounts
6. Identify and develop ad hoc tools to support a secure hardware and software infrastructure. This may include server and network security tools.
7. Perform domain security maintenance, install software upgrades, and troubleshoot technical problems.
8. Interact effectively with vendors and consultants and monitor their performance for optimum results.
Domain Administration and Development
1. Develop strategic test plans, evaluate solutions, and document recommendations to meet current and anticipated enterprise-wide domain administration and design requirements.
2. Create scripts and develop reports to retrieve information from Active Directory.
3. Manage, monitor, and provide expert advice on Active Directory security, design and configuration.
4. Create and maintain interfaces and other integration between Active Directory and external systems.
5. Evaluate, recommend, and implement Active Directory support tools.
6. Perform configuration and infrastructure planning of Active Directory updates and fixes.
7. Monitor and tune Active Directory.
8. Perform domain organizational structure and sub-structure creation across WAN \ LAN.
9. Perform Windows DNS configuration and optimization, creation of special zones as needed.
10. Perform organizational unit creation, restructuring and security modeling (auditing / event log collection).
11. Create scripts to automate domain administration and monitoring.
12. Initiate and drives projects that will improve domain / server systems.
13. Maintain current DFS architecture and improve as needed.
14. Maintain a high level of expertise on relevant technological developments.
System Monitoring Software Management
1. Manage, with primary ownership, server monitoring tools.
2. Manage, with primary ownership, Web filtering and monitoring tools.
3. Define and implement monitoring parameters for enterprise-wide systems.
4. Proactively monitor the domain to ensure stability.
Expertise and Assistance
1. Assist Server Administrator with server installation, software upgrades and troubleshooting.
2. Assist Network Administrator with network appliance installation, configuration and troubleshooting.
3. Assist Storage Administrator with storage appliance installation, configuration and troubleshooting.
4. Provide training to co-workers in area of expertise.
5. Participate on and/or lead special project teams as assigned.
Qualifications
1. College level coursework in Information Systems or equivalent.
2. Three to four years experience in Windows domain modeling, maintenance, and security.
3. Expert knowledge of Active Directory design, configuration and maintenance.
4. Three to four years experience working with Windows 2000/2003 server.
5. Expertise in Distributed File Systems (DFS).
6. Strong scripting or programming skills.
7. Microsoft SQL Server knowledge and scripting skills a plus.
8. Experience installing and maintaining a system monitoring tool.
9. Experience installing and maintaining a Web filtering and monitoring tool.
10. Experience installing and maintaining a patch management tool.
11. Knowledge of HP servers and support tools.
12. Knowledge of storage management technologies a plus.
13. Networking skills a plus.
14. Excellent project management skills.
15. Excellent communication and inter-personal skills with a team orientation and with vendors.
